In my office I sit and face a cabinet with my favourite pictures on it. Every time I look at them, it makes me smile and I know my job is the best there ever is.
The pictures are of my babies, my beautiful babies. And when I say ‘my’ babies, I don’t mean in the ‘I gave birth to them’ sense, no, my two are long gone – grown up and flying the nest, and I know what you’re thinking, ‘did she have them when she was just 15?’ the power of a good moisturiser and hair dye!
No, these babies are from parents I’ve worked with whilst they were having IVF. The parents and the babies are special to me and I find it the most rewarding work to help these clients in this most stressful situation. These people have been told there isn’t any medical reason to not having a baby, so why doesn’t it become as natural to them as it does to the 16 year old girl having sex for the first time! Often it can be our own subconscious mind, it is so powerful that if we say enough times ‘we’re not ready for a baby yet’ then the mind is doing what it believes to be true.
So if I can take some of that stress away, and change those old out of date thoughts of not wanting a baby, then I’m doing my job. And what a wonderful job it can be.
